Vanderbilt Carriage Show House

I was one of several designers who had the opportunity to take a step back in time and renovate this historical Carriage House on the Coast of Maine. My suite was comprised of an entry, bedroom and en suite bath. Taking my cues from the land and sea outside the second story windows, I attempted to let light, air, and water infuse the spaces. Beautiful natural woods and skilled artisans brought both rooms to life as the energy from the grain and surface of many different wood species were featured. The talented builder Richard Bradford was my design partner, creating the custom "boiserie" from scraps of wood. He engineered the installation of the spectacular paneling and mahogany bead board walls with the most precision. An antique white oak slab of wood became the counter top for the sink base with custom mahogany doors also built by Bradford. Fine Paints of Europe wall paint was beautifully complemented by Larry Stoddard of Distinctive Tile's simple cararra floor, base trim, and shower surfaces.
